Linguistically, prose is defined as the ordinary language people use in speaking and writing, and it is contrasted to poetry (Merriam-Webster, 1991: 945, Hornby, 1985: 672, and Quick, 1998: 832). The word prose is synonymous with the French word prosa. Types of prose can be narrative prose that is prose which describes an action or a series of actions to tell a story, descriptive prose that is prose which describes scenes, objects, people, or even a person’s feeling, or argumentative prose that is prose which explain about ideas.
