Indonesia is the largest economy in Southeast Asia. Over the decade to 2013, its economy expanded by an average of 5.7 percent per year to a nominal gross domestic product (GDP) of USD 868 billion, according to World Bank statistics. The growth story is widely expected to continue (cited World Bank Global Economic Prospects, December, 2014). In its 5-year forecast from March 2015, the Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) predicted that Indonesia’s annual growth would remain above 5 percent between 2015 and 2019. The Indonesian Government has low debt of less than 25 percent of its GDP (cited CIA World Fact Book, late 2014).
